My Sprout just blinks

My sprout just arrived, but when the pitcher is installed, the button continues to blink.  I have removed and replaced the pitcher a dozen times, each time it appears to be seated correctly.  Turned the Sprout on, put in a pitcher, and tried every combination I could think of to get the Sprout to work.  What is the next step?
